I have barely recovered from all Friday and Saturday Homecoming festivities and here it is Wednesday. I think not feeling well with horrible allergies all last week took a lot out of me as well. But we made the best of it and the kids enjoyed it so much. Living in a small town is just so much fun!
This year was our first year of getting to really get into the homecoming spirit (mostly because I had to work the previous years) but this year I took off work for it. Rylan got to be on his football teams homecoming float and I just couldn’t miss that.
The schools had early release that day. They got out at noon and I was patiently waiting for them to step off the bus at home. Rylan and Kyleigh came running up to the front porch and were ready to go. Low and be hold I had a surprise for them. My mom and aunt had came down from Arkansas to see them and watch Rylan and Hunter in the parade and play football on Saturday. My brother was on his way down from Arkansas as well. They both had no clue until we were headed to the parade and I called my mom and was talking to her through the car radio and they asked “Is that grandma? Is she here?” With excitement on the way to meet them, we said hello really quick when we spotted them and then made our way to the homecoming floats for Rylan to meet up with his team. Kyleigh and I met back up with my mom and aunt, found some spots to park to watch the parade and patiently waited for it to begin.
Maypearl’s varsity football team was playing against the Groesbeck Goats that night so each float theme mostly revolved around that. There were some really cute floats, even a Toy Story themed float! That one was my favorite.
A community pep rally was held at the stadium right after the parade and really put the whole town in that football spirit. I didn’t get any pictures simply because it was so hot and we set in the shade at a picnic table and watched from a distance.
That night I promised Rylan that we would go to the homecoming varsity football game, which we did and was so much fun for all of us. My brother made it to our house just a little before we had to leave to go watch the game so he came with us. Rylan has really gotten into football and watching every move when he can. He’s even got to the point of seeing a foul or certain play and calling it before the referee’s do. He enjoys it so much.
Some of Rylan’s friends were sitting next to him so he wasn’t having anything to do with taking pictures. Typical growing boy.
We left the game before it ended because Michael started not feeling well but we did end up missing all the post game traffic, so that was good. Maypearl was winning when we left, and they ended it with a WIN! Woohoo, go panthers!
Food was calling our name by the time we left and what a perfect way to end the night with stuffing our faces with Whataburger. Classic Texas style, am I right?
We made our way back to the house and prepared for bed and got everything ready for another football filled day on Saturday. More on Rylan and Hunter’s games tomorrow on the blog.
