I have been longing for a weekend like this past weekend and it was so nice getting out of the house and into the great outdoors.
I have quickly fell in love with camping and being outdoors and just taking in all the beauty of being outdoors so this weekend filled my soul.
We booked a camping spot out at Bardwell Lake for Friday and Saturday night. I unfortunately had to work Friday night so the kids, Michael, and his dad Alan camped out on Friday night. As soon as I got off work Saturday, I came home and took a shower, took care of our animals, packed a back and then headed to the lake.
When I arrived we started cooking breakfast. Bacon, potatoes, and toast. YUM!
Soon after breakfast the kids begged and begged to go swimming. We loaded up and headed to the swimming area. Man, that water was cold!
The kids got wore out from swimming and we headed back to the campsite to start grilling hotdogs for lunch.
After lunch we were able to get some fishing in and much needed relaxation. We even had a nice couple come and ask us if we would like some fish that they caught. She stated that her husband ended up not wanting to clean them. Of course Michael didn’t skip a beat and said “Of course!”. So next, he cleaned the fish.
Later that evening Michael and his dad went back to our house to feed and take care of our dogs and also pick up his son, Hunter.
The kids were so beyond excited that Hunter was coming to stay with us!
After they arrived back, we started cooking dinner. Bacon wrapped steaks and potatoes.
We ate good this weekend, to say the least.
We finished out the night listening to music surrounded by a campfire, and making some delicious s’mores.
Sunday morning was our last day.
Check out was at 2pm.
I woke up around 8ish that morning to Michael and his dad leaving to go fishing down at the point.
I went ahead and got up so that I could enjoy the sunrise and enjoy a cup of coffee before the kids woke up. So peaceful waking up next to the water and enjoying the view.
I think the guys got back from fishing around 10am and that when the kids started waking up. We started cooking breakfast. That day we had sausage and jelly toast.
Soon after breakfast the kids wanted to go swimming. Their grandpa took them down to the swimming area.
While they were there, Michael and I started cleaning up the camping site.
Soon enough, our camping trip was coming to an end.
We grilled burgers for lunch and then not too long after that it was time to start packing everything up.
The kids didn’t want to leave! And honestly, neither did I.
It was such a great and much needed weekend. I can’t wait to go camping again!
Here’s a little video to recap our weekend!
